Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) - A Major Update

Microsoft is launching a major security update to its Windows XP operating system.

The nearly 100Mb update will be available as a free download from Microsoft later this month. And the company is offering to post you a CD or provide it free through retail stores.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is full of all the incremental security updates that Microsoft has ever released. And it has a few new features.

Of the two new icons in the Control Panel one is called Windows Security Centre. It provides a one-stop shop for maintaining the currency of Windows XP. It will allow you to control your computer's firewall (its protective barrier against unwanted intruders), its software update history and even your anti-virus software.

The other new icon is Windows Firewall (formerly called Internet Connection Firewall), which extends protection of your PC when it is booting up and shutting down.

Windows XP SP2 has a whole bunch of other convenient features that include:
- improved program for accessing wireless networks
- Internet Explorer blocks pop-up ads.

This is a must-have update to Windows!
