Y2K
===
Are you still worried that your electronic toaster-microwave-dicer
won't
work after December 31, 1999? Relax, it probably won't
last that long.
Mac users will be sure to note that Macs are Y2K compliant.
As for your
PC, that's a different story altogether. What it boils
down to: if your
operating system is NOT Windows 98, you MIGHT run into
some problems. So
if you plan on upgrading in the next 2 years (or if you
have heard of
Murphy's Law), we suggest you do it well BEFORE the end
of the 1999.
To run Windows 98 we recommend a Pentium II with 128 MB
RAM. Hardware
costs have fallen so dramatically in 1998 that such a
beast can be had
for under $500! And because your old 386/486/pentium
is probably worth
less than $100 you might as well donate it to charity
and get a tax
write off.

!!Virus Alert!!
---------------
Heads up - I encountered the popular Win95.CIH virus
recently. It's the one that can flash your BIOS (READ: attack your hardware
and render you PC useless) Heck, over 100 files were affected! Mostly executable
files (READ: files that have .exe as an ending, used to start programs)
and excel spreadsheet files (they end in .xls).
I STRONGLY encourage you to check your systems for viruses
using the latest virus software. And because virii (the plural of virus)
can be dormant for some time, please DON'T WAIT until your computer acts
kind of buggy. Scan your computer drives pronto using a new virus checker
software like Norton or McAfee. Remember: download the latest virus descriptions
from the net before you hunt.
KC TIP: use Norton Antivirus 5.0. You can purchase NAV
for under $15 (they have a $20 rebate right now). Well worth the investment!

(real & fake) are at:
