Hey! Didja know you can display keyboard shortcuts in the ScreenTips. That's those yellow rectangles that pop up when you hover over some toolbar icons.
So how do you set up Word to displays the shortcut for the toolbar button in the ScreenTips?
On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Options tab.
Select the "Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips" check box.
Done!
Oh, wait, forget to mention that this affects ALL Microsoft Office programs... well, all except Excel.

KC TIPS
======
BEFORE YOU RECYCLE YOUR DINOSAUR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ready to buy an new computer and sell or give away the old one? Not
so fast...
When selling or donating old computers, be sure to remove sensitive personal data. Files deleted through ordinary means (e.g. dragging to the trash) can usually be recovered.
Use a secure file deletion utility which ensures the data can not be recovered. Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) includes a secure delete function and is freely available for non-commercial use for Windows and Mac at http://web.mit.edu/network/pgp.html
Norton System Works will also securely delete files. Both PGP and Norton do this by successively writing binary ones and zeros over files to be deleted
The same advice applies to storage media like computer tapes, disks, diskettes, etc. Be sure to completely remove any sensitive information before disposing of electronic storage media.
Note for secret agents and mobsters: even the conventional secure deletion
method of overwriting binary ones and zeros is NOT 100% fool proof. Someone
with technical knowledge and access to specialized equipment may be able
to recover data from files deleted with this method. Use of magnets (degaussing)
or physical destruction (kaboom!) may be required for especially sensitive
data.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All small biz website owners should read this! It's the Inc. magazine
2001 Best of the Web issue.
We found the section entitled "Seven Best Practices of Highly Effective Web Sites" particularly interesting. It reflects the Kahl Consultants web design philosophy.

MEDIA PLAYER EIGHT MY PRIVACY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Microsoft's new Windows Media Player 8 software is logging the songs
and movies that customers play.
Media Player 8 creates a LIST on each computer that could be a treasure for marketing companies, lawyers or others. Media Player 8 comes with Windows XP.
The player creates a database of all DVD titles watched. And it sends information to Microsoft so they can potentially track what DVD movies are being watched on a particular computer.
"If you're watching DVDs you don't want your wife to know about, you might not want to give her your password," said David Caulton, Microsoft's lead program manager for Windows Media.
After inquiries from reporters the company had to change its privacy statement.
AOTM (Acronym of the Month)
=======================
CD-R VS. CD-RW
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CD-R
Short for Compact Disk-Recordable.
A CD-R drive can create or "burn" CD-ROMs and audio CDs. You only write
on them ONCE.
STREET PRICE:
$35 for 100 blank CD-Rs.
FEATURE:
Multisession recording - you keep adding data to a CD-ROM over time.
CD-RW
Short for CD-ReWritable.
A CD-RW enables you to write onto it as often as you like.
STREET PRICE:
$10 for 10 blank CD-RWs.
FEATURE:
Treat it just like a floppy or hard drive, writing data, erasing it,
and writing new data.
CD-R and CD-RW disks are THE storage medium. That is until DVD devices become cheaper, which could occur as soon as later this year.
To create CD-ROMs and audio CDs, you'll need a CD-R drive and software. We recommend Easy CD Creator 5 or Nero.
Now is the time to buy a CD Burner. They are cheap, they finally work great, and now they're hella fast!

THE PUNCH LINE
==============
WARNING SIGN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are Billy's or Mary's grades suddenly going
up?
Are they asking questions you can't answer?
Do you find traces of computer use isn their
rooms such as half-finished programs, esoteric magazines, and arcane print-outs?
Have their appetites changed? Are they suddenly
into such things as Chinese food and late-night snacking?
Are they uncommonly eager to get to their
homework?
Is their speech direct, unslurred, and hard
to understand?
Looking into their eyes - are their pupils
bright?
Are new friends popping up, kids you'd normally
associate with glasses, notebooks, and cleverness?
Are your phone bills getting bigger, with
mysterious calls to faraway places late at night even though when you pick
up the receiver all you hear is a buzz?
Do they save their money, work at odd jobs
to earn it and then suddenly rush "downtown" to make a "buy" at the computer
store?
Warning!
If you suspect your child is using computers and need help to know what
to do about it, call your local Computer Hotline where trained social workers
will help you ease
the burden of knowing that your kid is hooked.
