1. INTRODUCTION

SolArch is a shareware design tool for architects. The European Commission Directorate General for Energy (DG XVII) supported this work as a THERMIE Programme action.

This version 1.0 is in English and has some content specific to the UK and Ireland.

Summer Solar Gain

Summer Solar Gain

This program is intended for professionals who are familiar with passive solar architecture. The audience group includes:
  • architects / civil engineers
  • construction industry / building designers
  • government agencies / public sector
  • technical press and media
  • public utilities / energy supply industry
  • professional and trade associations
  • consultants
  • university faculty and students

2. REQUIREMENTS

Important! To run this software you only need the following hardware and software:

MS-DOS 5.0 and higher
Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11 or Windows 95
A hard drive with at least 9 MB free space
VGA 640 x 480 video standard (also runs in monochrome), 256 colors

IMPORTANT:
for optimal performance set your display to 640 x 480 with 256 (or more) colors.
When running the external programme ”Climatic Data Modification” a DOS installed mouse driver can cause problems - the mouse pointer may be ”frozen” in the SolArch programme. Quit the SolArch programme using ALT-F4 and deinstall the DOS mouse driver!

3. INSTALLATION

The installation is very simple and takes only a few minutes:

Load Windows
click FILE
click RUN
enter A:\INSTALL
(”A” depends on the name of the floppy disk drive)
follow the instructions of the installation programme

4. START SOLARCH

Load Windows. Double click the SolArch Icon in the SolArch Programme Group.
