Many of us are now working from home. While the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 mainly spreads from person to person, here's how to keep homes and home offices free of germs if you have a lot of visitors.
Cleaning is removing germs and dirt from a surface, but it does not kill them. Disinfecting actually kills the germs and stops them from spreading.
Wear reusable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting to protect your hands. You can get contact dermatitis with frequent exposure to chemicals.
Bonus tip: Clean frequently touched surfaces regularly:
Don't forget to wash your hands! If you have a COVID patient at home, here are tips from the CDC.
How long does the virus survive on a surface? A few hours to a few days. Depends on the type of surface.
And finally a little good news. Surfaces are not an effective means of viral transmission. Yes, there is a very small chance COVID-19 is transmitted when you touch a contaminated surface and then touch your face, nose or mouth or eyes. However, surfaces are not the main way the virus spreads. There’s a long chain of events that would need to happen to get infected through contact with any surfaces. The best way to make sure the chain is broken is... WASH YOUR HANDS!
