Reclaim Yourself and the Planet
Do you live a tech-saturated life? It is critical to UNPLUG sometimes. Presenting the Global Day of Unplugging - coming up on March 7th.
Why Unplug? Why Should I Care?
Be honest, how much time do you spend staring at your phone, tablet, or computer?
With notifications buzzing to grab our attention, a connected world can be good, but it is also costing us mental and physical well-being. If you are so busy scrolling, liking, sharing, and so on, you tend to forget the real tangible world. You skip talking to friends and family in person.
Unplugging can help!
Mental and Emotional Benefits
What happens when we consciously unplug?
- Less Stress - The pressure to be “always on”, can induce chronic stress. Our minds can't relax and recharge while plugged in. Your brain needs a mini-vacation!
- Better Sleep - The blue light from our devices interferes with melatonin production, the hormone that regulates sleep. And who doesn’t want to sleep better?
- Increased Focus - Notifications distract us and shorten our attention spans. Unplugging gives us the means to refocus and concentrate, leading to increased productivity and presence in whatever we are engaged in.
- Relationships - Seriously, why must you text while eating or during conversations? Unplug and create more meaningful relationships.
- Enhanced Creativity - Our brains require downtime. Creativity flourishes when we unplug.
- Improved Mental Health - Social media is making many of us feel bad and less talented. Unplugging resets or disconnects us from the curated online version and focuses our attention back on our own lives.
Power Off for a Healthier Planet
Our digital habits have a big environmental impact, too. The manufacturing and powering of our devices take more and more energy.
- Reduce Energy Consumption - Unplug your devices when not in use! Power down your computer after work every night.
- Less Electronic Waste - Extend the life of your devices. Consuming less means less e-waste.
- Mindful Consumption - Be more conscious of your consumption. Be grateful for the resources you have and live more sustainably.
